Back to Tour
Day 1 - Arrive in Juneau, Alaska. Your guide will pick you up at the airport and transport you
to your hotel. After you unpack and freshen-up you will meet your guide for a tour orientation, bike fit
and a ride around Juneau, followed by dinner.
Day 2 - You depart on a morning bike ride out to the north end of Douglas Island where you
have a picnic lunch. The afternoon is spent either kayaking or in case of rough seas, hiking in the
rainforest.
Evening options are a tram ride up Mt. Roberts or a town bike ride.
Day 3 - You check out of your hotel, followed by a morning ride out the valley to the
Mendenhall Glacier and Auke Bay. You depart for Haines in the late afternoon on the State of Alaska
Marine Highway System ferry. Dinner will be served onboard while cruising Lynn Canal, North
America's longest fjord. Arriving in Haines 4-1/2 hours later, you check in to your hotel for a good
night's sleep after a day of exercise and fresh Alaskan air.
Day 4 - On our first morning in the picturesque town of Haines, we will drive along the
Chilkat River through the Bald Eagle Preserve to the Dalton Trail. You will continue by bike on a dirt
road through the coastal rainforest, along a glacial-fed river to the historic Porcupine gold mining
district. We will stop at the Big Nugget Gold Mine for some panning practice and eat a picnic lunch at
the old Porcupine townsite. In the afternoon we will float on rafts back through the Eagle Preserve
towards Haines.
Day 5 - The morning activity is a bike ride out to glacial-fed Chilkoot Lake. At the beautiful
emerald-colored lake, you will exchange your bicycle for a sea kayak. After a brief orientation, we will
glide silently along the shore, occasionally spotting bear, moose, eagles, and other wildlife. Following a
picnic lunch at the lake, you will once again mount your bike for a leisurely ride back to town. The late
afternoon will be spent on your own exploring the many shops and museums of Haines before dinner.
Day 6 - You start the day with a short ride along the coastal tidal flats to the Mt Riley
trailhead. We will hike the trail and from the top, experience some of southeast Alaska's most stunning
views up and down the fiord. In the afternoon you board the fast ferry to Skagway where you check in
to your B& B. We will take a bike tour of town, followed by the Day's of 98 show.
Day 7 - You board the White Pass & Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad for the narrated trip
over the summit to Fraser Station in British Columbia, Canada. From there you bike back to Skagway,
descending 15 miles downhill from the 3000-foot summit of White Pass. The afternoon is open for
other tour options, including rock climbing, hiking or something more sedate like a classic streetcar
tour.
Day 8 - Your day starts with a bike ride from Skagway out to the historic townsite of Dyea.
We will explore the tidal flats and trails through the rainforest from our bicycles. We will then walk for
two miles on the historic Chilkoot Trail and finish with a float down the Taiya River. The late afternoon
is open for other tour options such as hiking to a beautiful mountain lake or something more sedate
like gold panning.
Day 9 - After breakfast you have time to do some last minute shopping or sightseeing before
departing for home or extending your Alaska adventure.
