Canol Road Tour Details

Day 1 - The group convenes mid-day in Skagway, Alaska. After fitting you to a bike and a brief orientation ride around town, we will drive north into Canada to Johnson's Crossing. We stay in a motel for the night.

Day 2 - You hop on the bikes, make adjustments and loosen up your cycling legs on the winding dirt road. During the evening we relax by a campfire at a quiet Yukon lake. Distance - 47 miles

Day 3 - Black spruce and willow line the road as you skirt by small lakes and rivers heading into the Pelly Mountains. The quiet and solitude of this country prevails. Tonight we camp on the shore of Lapie Lake. Sitting by the fire brings Robert Service prose to life. Distance - 50 miles

Day 4 - Gentle rolling hills and curves melt by as you cycle along. The route descends into the Lapie Canyon as you near the end of the South Canol Road. We cross the Campbell Highway and make our way to the village of Ross River. We spend tonight in a hotel. Distance - 40 miles

Day 5 - Our trail continues north towars the Arctic Circle. We board the Pelly River ferry to cross to the opposite shore where the North Canol road begins. We shuttle by van to the north end of the road and camp at Macmillan Pass along the northern edge of the Rocky Mountains.

Day 6 - Today is spent exploring the pass and relaxing while enjoying the fall colors. For those wishing to venture further by bike on a day trip, the route continues into the NWT as the Canol Heritage Trail.

Day 7 - Back on the bikes we drop into an open valley with the Itsi Mountains to the east. Rusty vehicle relics from the WW II era line the road. We cross the Macmillan River many times as we descend the pass. Tonight we camp overlooking the Macmillan Valley. Distance - 40 miles

Day 8 - The road traverses the remains of an old forest fire that swept through the region. Fireweed lines the way as we leave the Continental Divide behind. We camp at Dragon Lake. Distance - 35 miles

Day 9 - The last day of riding takes us back to Ross River where we spend the night reflecting on the country we've traveled. We stay at the hotel in Ross River for the evening. Distance Ð 65 miles

Day 10 - We get an early start for the drive south to Whitehorse and then Skagway, arriving in the late afternoon. We check into a B&B in Skagway. You will have time to explore the town before meeting the group for dinner at a local seafood restaurant.

Day 11 - We enjoy a final breakfast together at the B&B before saying our goodbyes. The day is free to explore Skagway on your own and complete any final souvenir shopping before heading home or on to your next Alaskan adventure.
